.Light the inside and outside of your business around entries and exits
.Get an appropriate security system and learn to use it properly including placing cameras in appropriate locations. Check batteries monthly.
.Trim shrubs and keep windows and doors clear
.Stamp keys issued to employees “do not duplicate” and protect them with utility patents. Replace with new locks and keys when employees leave their jobs.
.Train employees in good opening, closing, cash-handling and crime response procedures.
.Keep cash register in plain view from outside the business so law enforcement can monitor it.
.Keep only a small amount of cash in registers.
.Keep a fireproof drop safe so cash cannot be removed once it is put in.
.Do not display valuable goods in store windows after hours.
.Train employees in proper credit card authorization procedures.
.Train employees in calling police when someone looks suspicious and teach them not to approach subject of interest.
